Watch Out Wal-Mart; AT&T Offers $99 iPhone

It looks like AT&T is the only place to get a $99 Apple iPhone 3G. For now, anyway. In the post-holiday crunch, AT&T has launched the sale of refurbished iPhones to unload some inventory and offer cost-conscious shoppers a discount. In AT&T Wireless' online store, a refurbished 8 GB iPhone runs $99 with a two-year contract, while a refurbished 16 GB iPhone is $199. Both are $100 more when purchased new, but carry the same contract terms.

Television for the iPhone

Network limitations somewhat stymie what the iPhone and iPod touch can do with video, but that hasn’t prevented developers from trying to harness the power of moving pictures on the devices. Mayakama.com’s Television is a video aggregator that lets you watch 61 news (and news-ish) programs on more than 30 channels, including CNN, NBC, the Associated Press, and Cnet, as well as several foreign news services. The app also includes videos from the Onion, College Humor TV, VH1, and MTV. The app’s successes and limitations show just how far developers have to go before getting video right.

Is Tom Cruise finished?

On the big Christmas Day box office day, Tom Cruise’s Valkyrie debuted at a disappointing number #4. This was already a movie that was re-scheduled to this big money making day due to fears about its performance. Valkryrie follows Cruise’s last flop, Lions for Lambs, which did not even break even at the box office and was one of the worst performing films of 2007. Was it Cruise’s brashness with NBC’s Matt Lauer interview or his jab at Brooke Shield’s pregnancy pills? Too political? Bad religion PR? He even recently apologized for Oprah’s couch jump.

This once was man that was making headlines for his marathon of $100 million gross movies. What happened?

Penn. man shot for being too loud during movie

Welcome to 2009, almost.

A man enraged by a noisy family sitting near him in a movie theater on Christmas night shot the father of the family in the arm, police said.

Police could not confirm what movie was playing in the theater, but The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that it was "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button."

Well there you have it. Brad Pitt must be really good in this one. :) I can't wait to see the movie myself. But now i'm wondering if it's possible for a movie to be too good. So good that the attendees at the theater actually break out in violence if their is an error in the slightest during the projection of the film.

I think I might catch this on dvd.

Wal-Mart iPhone Sales: Where's the Discount?

Wal-Mart is rolling out sales of the iPhone 3G this weekend -- but don't expect to see a lot of savings. As was speculated back in November, the discount retailer will begin carrying the iPhone on its shelves Sunday. Missing from the equation, though, is the discount.

It's no surprise, then, that the rush of reports claiming Wal-Mart would sell the iPhone for $99

created a bit of a stir and didn't seem entirely unbelievable. Turns out, of course, that instinct was wrong.

Selling Strategies

So what happened? It may just be that Apple doesn't believe its iPhone needs that strong of a push. The iPhone already commands almost a third of the U.S. smartphone market and is steadily growing, while Nokia -- the only company ahead of Apple in sales -- has been consistently losing share over the past months. In fact, analysts say Apple is "the only reason" the smartphone market stayed strong throughout the year's economic downfall.

A $99 iPhone would have boosted sales, no doubt, maybe even expanding the phone's demographical reach. But a $197 iPhone placed in front of millions of new faces will probably do the job decently, too. And, given the iPhone's ongoing success and ever-increasing appeal among young users, I suspect Apple isn't too worried about the outcome.

The $99 iPhone 3G finally

Speculation that Wal-Mart would sell a $99 iPhone was put to rest on Friday when the official announcement came out sans the double digits.

However, all hope is not lost.

AT&T is selling a refurbished 8GB iPhone 3G in black for $99 with a two-year service contract through Wednesday, New Year's Eve. That beats AT&T's previous price tag of $149.

OK, OK, it's not new. But refurbished is close enough.

The refurbished 16GB model in black or white is also being sold for a $50 discount with a $199 price tag. But that doesn't have the magical ring to it of $99.

First reactions from buyers of Research In Motion Ltd.'s newest BlackBerry Storm smart phone have been "lukewarm," and nowhere near the satisfaction ratings of Apple Inc.'s iPhone, a market research analyst said today.

Britney Spears hates her Boobs

“I have a love-hate relationship with my boobs. At the moment I hate them. I want them smaller. I can’t wear the kind of suits that I used to love, the red PVC one I got to wear for the Oops I Did It Again video.” -Britney Spears

Are you kidding?!?!?

I love her boobs. That’s the best part about her, seriously. Look at those things. MMMMHMM..

Mint.com and personal finance on the iPhone

Mint.com released a new and free iPhone application early Monday. Similar to PageOnce's mobile efforts, Mint's lets you monitor your credit card and bank accounts from your phone. It also throws in things like your monthly budget, incoming cash flow and expenses, along with any investment accounts you have synced up to Mint.com.

Article Here

I've just started using Mint and love that I can now see my info on my iPhone. My iPhone is rapidly becoming my primary entry point for everything in my life from Calendar & Email, to Omnifocus and now Mint. I agree that it would be better to have to enter a Mint password to access the info but the default iPhone access code is ok.

Eden's Log Trailer - Video

This dark, sci-fi, atmospheric film, my favorite kind, has a new trailer which looks beautiful btw:

A man regains consciousness deep down at the bottom of a cave. He has no idea of how he got there, nor can he determine what happened to the dead man whose body he wakes up next to. Only one thing is certain - he has to escape the menacing creature thats pursuing him, climbing back to the surface through a cemetery like world thats been abandoned by a mysterious organization called Eden Log.

Samurai Zombies Trailer - Video

The trailer is finally out. Checks it:

Sakaguchi's upcoming sophomore directorial effort "Samurai Zombie". The story of a family whose road trip gets sidelined by gun toting gangsters and... you guessed it... samurai zombies... looks like it promises loads of action, camp and of course blood. Lots, and lots of blood, in fact it's raining out of the sky here!

Fans of "The Machine Girl" and "Tokyo Gore Police," click here to head over to Twitch to catch all the Tak Sakaguchi goodness. You won't be disappointed.

Print photos directly from the iPhone from HP

Hewlett-Packard on Monday launched an application that allows users to print pictures wirelessly from an iPhone.

The application, iPrint Photo, allows pictures stored on an iPhone to be printed using HP's inkjet printers attached to a Wi-Fi network.

Users can launch the application on an iPhone, select a photo by touching it, after which a print command is sent to the inkjet printer over a Wi-Fi network. The software also runs on the iPod Touch device.

Currently, the software enables only 4-by-6-inch (10-by-15-centimeter) photo prints and resizes images accordingly. The application is available for download from the App Store for free.

The software is a better way to enable users to print thousands of images stored on their iPhones, HP said. The application works with Apple's Bonjour networking technology to help identify HP wireless printers on the network.

However, there are some caveats. Only JPEG images are printed by the application, and it does not support any other image or documents formats for now, HP said. The printing may also be cancelled if a user receives a call or a text message on the iPhone.

The application has been well-received by iPhone users, but it has limited capabilities, users said in an online forum discussing the software.

"Now they need to come out with one to allow you to print pdf files and other documents from your iPhone," wrote poster det2004, in MacRumors' message boards.

There are also some concerns surrounding the application, which supports only HP printers. "I have a Canon printer with WiFi. I'm hoping someone releases this to work with those printers," poster Daremom wrote on the same page.

HP iPrint Photo is only compatible with wireless HP inkjet printers or other HP network inkjets connected to a Wi-Fi network, an HP spokeswoman said. "Currently we cannot comment on future plans to expand the compatibility," she said.

Additional features and functionality will be decided with future versions of the software, the spokeswoman said.

The technology will be on display at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) and Macworld, both of which will be held next month.

SimCity on the iPhone

To the stable of games for the iPhone, you can now add the legendary SimCity.

Electronic Arts' city-building game, priced at $9.99, is now available for Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch devices. Users can take advantage of the touch-screen technology to design and construct their vision of an urban landscape.

MG Siegler at VentureBeat, who's had a chance to play with the game for a while, waxed enthusiastic about the touch-screen qualities and more--"SimCity is a very impressive game on the iPhone"--but warned of some lingering bugs from the game's demo period.

While some of those issues have been fixed--the game runs fairly snappy now, when loaded--I'm experiencing the game crashing and a slowdown in actions like zooming. From the early reviews I'm seeing on SimCity's App Store page, I'm not alone in experiencing this.

And unfortunately, loading even the more bare-bones previously saved city takes a long time (I'm talking minutes). Maybe for some, that will just add to the nostalgic experience--I remember this was an issue on my old PC back in the day as well. For others, it'll be annoying.

A trio of Go Hero-Buck Rogers-Update here, before 2008-ends:

UPDATE #1: The bad news is; production delays may have resulted in some folks not being able to receive their Bucks before Christmas - but the good news is, new features have been added to the figure to make up for the delay, as well as to make the figure even better. Additions include: [1] an actual Glass Bubble Helmet, [2] Die-cast studs on the bubble helmet chest piece, and [3] Die-cast buckles (for several straps). CLICK to get re-acquainted with the 1/6th-scaled space hero on TRE!

UPDATE #2: And what's this about a 1/6th-scaled Buck Rogers ROCKET? Go Hero is currently working on a single passenger rocket - tentatively scheduled for a prototype-debut by New York Comic Con 2009! How big do you think the rocket would be to fit 1/6-Buck?

UPDATE #3: Frank Miller has been announced to be on board to direct & write the new Buck Rogers movie! And to "commemorate" this occasion, I whipped-up a black+white+red version of how it may look like (above-right), if given the Miller-Sin-City-Spirit-treatment! ~ heh.

Jamie-Lynn Sigler and Molly Simms costar as hot chicks (no stretch there), while Justin Timberlake cameos as a grossed-out janitor asked to make a cleanup on aisle 3.

Walmart rumored to sell 4GB iPhone 3G for $99

According to Connie Guglielmo at DailyTech, Wal-Mart will be the second retail chain to start selling Apple Inc.’s iPhone, with two store representatives saying the world’s largest retailer will carry two models.

Employees in the cell-phone departments at five California stores, contacted by phone today, said Wal-Mart will offer iPhones by the end of December. Employees are currently being trained on how to sell the device, all five said.

Apple spokesman Steve Dowling wouldn’t respond to the report and said the company “does not comment on rumor or speculation.” Wal-Mart spokesman Dan Fogleman said the company hasn’t made an official announcement on an iPhone offering and has no comment. AT&T spokesman Mark Siegel declined to comment.

To spur adoption of the device, which was originally released in June 2007, Apple added a speedier version that works on third-generation handsets in July, dropped the price to as low as $199 from $399 and expanded distribution to 51 countries. Jobs said he expects the iPhone 3G to be sold in 70 markets by year’s end.

This is amazing! :)

Mobile Porn

Oh Mobile

Mobile porn continues to grow ever more popular. It's only a natural part of the evolution of any technology. Since time immemorial, any new innovation from the printing press to the video camera and any other new way of distributing images ends up being used to make porn. From iPods to PSP and of course, cell phones in the case of sites such as Oh Mobile, the world is changing even if some cellular providers are shy to admit they're the first in their nation to give direct access to smut on the go.

If you've never lived in Canada, you might not know that has much as Canadians are adamant that they're different from Americans, being so close to the USA is at times an easy way to justify controversial trends. According to the Globe and Mail (02/06/07), Telus Mobile is using the old, everyone is doing it excuse for having recently launched the first direct access to adult content on their Canadian cellular market.

To be fair, they're halfway truthful since obviously their competitors on the Canadian cellular market do provide internet services and as Telus spokesperson Jim Johannsson points out, "The reality is it's already out there on today's handsets that are equipped with Internet browsers."

However, other Canadian cell phone giants Rogers Wireless and Bell Canada do not provide direct-marketed adult content yet. The Telus content costs between $3 and $4 Canadian for downloads of porn pics and flicks. A credit card serves as its form of adult verification meeting Canadian legal standards. Parental blocking of said content provides further safeguards.

Telus had received 135 complaints from offended customers who do not support the move according to Mr. Johannsson. He made no comment regarding whether any of the disgruntled consumers cancelled their services with the company besides stating that he expects it will be a "small fraction" of subscribers. That gives me a chuckle since in Canada, most cell phone users are under two or three year contracts that have early cancellation penalties of sometimes two or three hundred bucks.

Talk about a captive audience. Nevertheless, it won't be a bed of roses for the new service, I know. Having already worked in the customer service department of cellular phone service provider, I'm well aware of what happens when a new pay-per-use service is launched. There will be lots of people with huge bills bitching that they would never, ever even think of looking at porn let alone pay so much money for it. Those same folks were the first ones back in the day to say that they didn't know that each of their 40 new ring tunes were costing $2.99 each.

Next big thing? iPhone porn.

Poor old Apple. Just when Steve Jobs wants everyone to be talking about the 3G iPhone’s potential for awesome games and innovative GPS applications, instead the web is buzzing about the handset’s potential for adult content. According to one adult company, it’s “by far the porn-friendliest phone”. I can understand why the adult industry is scrambling to make its content available for the iPhone - millions have been sold, it’s got a great web browser, and iPhone users are demonstrably using it to look at websites and stream videos. According to one industry spokesperson, there are now a few hundred iPhone porn sites, all hoping to make their fortune from Apple’s touchscreen handsets. But is iPhone porn really going to be the next big thing? I doubt it. Will people pay to subscribe to iPhone adult websites, as they would for traditional websites? Surely not - the only money to be made here is adding a quid or two to those existing website subscriptions for access on the go. Advertising, then? Mobile advertising is such an early market, it’s hard to see anyone building a business around this. Pure promotion - people making adult DVDs setting up an iPhone site with free samples? Maybe, but again, this sounds like a good idea in theory, but whether it would actually make them more money is a big doubt. Back in the days when 3G was commonly predicted to result in huge profits for ‘girls, games and gambling’, many companies thought they’d get rich from mobile porn. And while some are making decent money, it’s certainly not the big driver of content usage it was expected to be. iPhone is unlikely to change that. I’m not saying there won’t be a market for adult content on iPhone - there clearly will - but the fact that it’ll seemingly be entirely based on accessing said porn through the Safari browser will limit it. Of course, if porn companies were allowed to sell their dedicated applications through Apple’s iPhone App Store, that’d be a different question, but current indications are they won’t be. Apple has been somewhat stony-faced in its rare proclamations on adult content in recent months.

Searches increase for 'iPhone porn'

As Apple's iPhone grows in popularity so too has the number of searches for websites dedicated to 'iPhone porn', according to figures.

In the last five months internet searches for iPhone porn have increased nearly fivefold according to Google Trends, a tool used to track popular search terms.

Research has shown that the iPhone is used far more than conventional mobile phones to watch videos.

Around a third of iPhone users watch video on their handsets, nearly 10 times the number that watches video on other brands of mobile phone.

Apple has banned all pornographic material from its store and said it will endeavour to stop content from being accessed by those under the appropriate age.

"Our iPhone 2.0 software will give customers the opportunity to turn on parental controls," said a spokeswoman for Apple.

Apple's newest 3G iPhone will be released in the UK on 11 July with 130,000 people pre-registered for the newest model according to network operator O2.

Porn on any Screen

"Interesting article by Reuters this week titled: "Porn to spice up cell phones"

Unlike in Europe, mobile porn has yet to take off in North America as carriers have been afraid of offending political and religious groups and parents concerned about children being exposed to adult content. Mobile porn in Europe is estimated as a $775 million industry in 2007 that will grow to $1.5 billion by 2012, with the global market reaching $3.5 billion in 2010, according to Britain-based Juniper Research.

In comparison, North America generated just $26 million last year in mobile porn sales. Most North American carriers have not even discussed offering adult service and the only one who has, Telus, Canada's second-largest phone company, withdrew a mobile porn service last year after complaints from hundreds of customers and criticism from the Catholic Church.

This is another case of "here we go again" as adult content has always played a big role in driving technology adoption. Back in 1997 when RealNetworks launched its first Internet streaming video system, a large percentage of the initial client interest came from the adult sector. Online porn is now a huge business and unlike a lot of other online video segments, the business model works well because consumers are willing to pay for access.

Certainly there are some technology requirements needed (age verification, etc.) but this is a train that's impossible to stop and if the carriers were smart, they'd figure out how to generate revenue here.

"It will be impossible to stop the adult business exploitation of mobile entertainment," said Gregory Piccionelli, a lawyer specializing in adult entertainment at law firm Piccionelli & Sarno."

Free iPHONE PORN

Now that the new 3G iPhone is available, porn is apparently about to hit iPhones in a big way according to Time Magazine. Why?

“It’s by far the porn-friendliest phone,” says Devan Cypher, representative for San Francisco–based Sin City Entertainment.

Congratulations to the whole Apple development team!

Iphone Porn - Free? Where to go.

Posted in iPhone with tags , on October 21, 2008 by porn4iphone

Several leading porn players are getting ready for the new version of Apple’s device.

1. http://iphone-porn.us

2. http://gay.iphone-porn.us

3. http://iPhone Matters.com

4. http://freeiporn.us

These 4 are the beginning of these technological feats of the 3G iPhone. They are key to the coming pornucopia. To date, mobile porn has consisted largely of still images, racy text services and “moan tones,” which are sultry-sounding ringtones. In Europe there is an active market for video chatting; customers pay on average $50 a month to exchange dirty messages with actresses. But now, thanks in large part to the iPhone’s video dexterity, short clips are becoming a staple of the mobile porn business.

The speed promised by the iPhone 2.0 is much anticipated. Google Trends, which measures Web buzz, shows a sharp increase over the past year in the popularity of the term “iPhone porn.”

‘No one else seems to have the cajones …’

The spectre of children using the iPhone as a sex viewer has also been raised.

Apple says parents can use mobile-phone porn blockers, but, “Some parents may not be tech-savvy enough to figure that out, though, and some kids may be clever enough to find a work-around,” says Juniper analyst Windsor Holden in the Time story, saying:

“If a minor with one of these phones pokes around, he could easily access adult sites without his parents’ knowledge.”

Time magazine details how pornographic images and videos are poised to turn Steve Jobs’ new baby into an HD portable repository for smut.

Apple is keeping a, QUOTE, “civil, if embarrassed, silence” on the subject, but Meaningful Distraction is ready to hail the new era of “pocket porn.”

Say goodbye to all those racy images, texts and “moan tones” — and say hello to hardcore, downloadable, streaming videos featuring lesbians, matures, hentai vids, gay, and hottie blondes & brunettes.

End.
